Vicky McGinley Bio
Ahh yes, McGinley....a fine Irish name. You may be in for a surprised when you see the photo! Vicky McGinley was born in Taiwan in 1978. When she was born she was so tall (especially for an Asian baby) that everyone joked that she would someday marry an American. Growing up it was always her dream to sing, but in Taiwan there are few opportunities to gain experience. She did successfully pursue a modeling and acting career in her home city of Taipei, and appeared in magazines, TV shows and MTV music videos.

After coming to America in 1999, she finally had some opportunity to shine. Then boyfriend Scott McGinley was playing in clubs with his long time musical partner Pat McCabe. When Pat decided to retire from the club scene, Scott approached his booking agent about using vicky in the group. THE PROBLEM: “Vicky doesn’t play an instrument” the agent would say “you need someone who plays”. After weeks of trying to convince the agent to consider Vicky, Scott lied and said she DOES play. At that he agreed to book them. THE NEW PROBLEM: Vicky had just one month to learn to play guitar, keys AND learn the words to all the songs! “The amazing thing is...she did it!...She was ready to go in a month...guitar, keys and all!” Scott says.
Now some four years later, she not only has realized her dream and become a professional musician, but she is also working on her first full length solo album with husband Scott (I guess everyone was right about the “marrying an american” thing!) playing, and producing. Her music is being picked up by many independent radio stations across the country and even over seas in Europe and Asia.
Vicky McGinley's new CD is "in the works" and will be released....well sometime soon. It's a bit slow going, but it is coming along. The new cd is a combination of great rocking punk/power pop and some really beautiful ballads. Vicky has really embraced the rock melody sensibilities of the Beatles while retaining a fresh new approach to the music. ....and what a beautiful voice!
Vicky can currently be seen live playing under the name “The Insiders” with her husband at local bars. The Insiders mix a variety of covers of all different styles and decades, with original material. You can check out THE INSIDERS website here
