POP IS ART

POP IS ART is a brand new group that has been 8 years in the making. Drawing on the past success of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Scott McGinley, POP IS ART is making waves in the powerpop underground with their debut cd "...In the Beginning..." "In the Beginning is a compilation of all the best powerpop I've done over the last few releases of my different bands", says Scott. "New Religion and Bliss were quite successful in Asia, but the albums were always a broad mix of music. Both cd's had power pop songs on them, but New Religion was mixed with old school funk and a couple ballads, and Bliss, was mostly adult rock and ballads. I've always loved power pop and orchestrated pop, so this was the 1st time i geared a whole album towards that genre."

After the release of In the Beginning, POP IS ART, was invited to play the International Pop Overthrow festival in Chicago (April '03). Festival head, David Bash, says "I think the CD is really good, and unlike a lot of stuff that's coming out of today's pop underground because your sound retains the kind of style and infectiousness that was in existence on a lot of those great late '70s albums."

"The IPO band which really struck both David and I as a highlight last night at Nevin's Live, BTW, were Pop Is Art (a Philly quartet led by music-industry veteran Scott McGinley)."

Here's what people are saying about Pop Is Art:

Eric Sorensen: January, 2003
" In The Beginning "- by Pop Is Art. Scott McGinley's 17-song multi-track effort is superb! This is pseudo-60s pop at its best - which means that McGinley starts with Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boy references, and builds from there. Top Ten for sure!

Pop Is Art - In The Beginning ... Bruce Brodeen-not lame
Featuring Scott McGinley (Insiders), Pop Is Art is going to set the power pop world afire! this is about as classic of indie power pop as you are going to find, simply put forth here. We'll say that Pop Is Art features all the velvet smooth vocal harmonies, wickedly long-lasting melodies and sweet sounds that great pop plops down on the table. Fans of Matthew Sweet, Velvet Crush, The Dons/Receiver, Raspberries, Fools Face, Cloud Eleven and The Rubinoos will find various displays of the sunny, hand-clapped, guitar pop these artists do so well. What creeps into some of this material that is kinda cool is a distinct Southern California mid-70's spirit. Extremely Highly Recommended!
