Album Reviews: The Insiders All Mixed Up Origivation magazine, Philadelphia, PA Dec 2002 ....surprisingly retro 60’s folk, yet very moody and poppy at once... ...INFLUENCES: Wow, too many to list here. I hear a little bit of everything in here... ...exotic yet familiar style, i can’t quite put my finger on, but i like it... ...MUSICALITY: Very good. In fact excellent. Multi-layered and complex at times, but very well constructed... ...This husband and wife duo are very talented musically, and perform out of shear love of music itself. It’s evident that they perform well together and have a following at shows. Their site indicates that Scott, while fronting another band [Bliss www.popisart.com] was quite popular in Asia, playing to crowds in the 30,000 range. Wow! Worth listening to? Yes.
Reviewer: Bruce Brodeen-NOT LAME RECORDINGS
Sounding like a mix of Scot Sax (Wanderlust) and Matthew Sweet, The Insiders mix up a variety of stylings. Comprised of singer/ multi-instrumentalist, Scott McGinley, and Taiwan born model-turned musician, Vicky Chen, most of the vocals are handled by McGinley. The Insiders create ambitiously seductive oceans of pop sound and always have interesting, never walk-through-the-motions arrangements. There's even a cover version of the Hudson Brothers "So You Are A Star" so you know exactly where the grounding of inspiration is for this band. Very Highly Recommended!
